Shuckleite

Shuckle is already a very defensive Pokémon… but we can make it even more defensive!

In the Player’s Room at the very start of the game, you’ll find the SHUCKLEITE — a held item that functions exactly like the Eviolite from later gens. If your Shuckle holds it, it gains a 50% boost to Defense and Special Defense.

Why? Why not?!

Inspired by AmityvilleFan on YouTube.

Wild Safari Zone Encounters

This one’s probably a buggy mess — but that’s part of the fun!

After you get through the Catching Tutorial on Route 29, all wild encounters become Safari Zone battles. No EXP, Pokémon can flee, and catching is a roll of the dice.

There’s no native Safari Zone in Gen II, so this was built from scratch — and it’s a little janky. But that’s what makes it a perfect challenge or stream curiosity.

No Pokéballs or EXP here. Just vibes.

Threedrill

Threedrill is a beloved Challenge Run side character — and now you get to play as him!

At the start of the game, all three Poké Balls contain a Beedrill. Catching is disabled, and HMs have been replaced with items, so your challenge is to conquer Johto and Kanto with just your three bees.

A very silly — and very tough — run.

Umbreoff

It’s Umbreon — but the lights have been turned off to save energy.

You’ll only find Umbreoff as a starter option if you’ve modified your starter Pokémon. Its stats are rearranged (Offensive swapped with Defensive, HP with Speed), and it learns Crunch and Howl by level-up, giving it some bite.

A weird little remix that makes for a genuinely usable dark-type early on.
