Giftlocke Patch
Latest update: 25th December 2024, v1.0
Gym Leader Giftlocke Mode:
Core Features:
The three Starter Pokémon are randomized.
After picking up your starter from Professor Elm, the only way to obtain Pokémon is by defeating Gym Leaders.
Every Gym Leader will give you a random Pokémon with its level set to the same level as their ace Pokémon.
The RNG for the gift Pokémon cannot be re-rolled. Your next gift Pokémon is determined as soon as you have received a Pokémon.
All Pokémon are available, including duplicates of Pokémon you have already received.
You will receive 17 Pokémon throughout the course of your game - one starter, and 16 Pokémon from the Gyms.
The Gift Pokémon is not linked to a specific Gym Leader. Regardless of who you defeat, your gift Pokémon will remain the same.
Gameplay Changes:
All methods of obtaining Pokémon (except the starter and Gym Leader Gifts) have been disabled. This includes all regular gift Pokémon, Eggs, and wild Pokémon catching.
All HMs and Field Moves have been replaced with equivalent items to enable progression.
A Stone seller has been added to Goldenrod Mart. This includes a stone to evolve all Pokémon who require a trade evolution.
Prize vendor gives Rental Abra in Goldenrod Game Corner.
Optional Level Cap for extra difficulty.
Optional Candy Box (infinite Rare Candy) to minimize grinding.
Option to hide the preview of your starter Pokémon for complete mystery.

FAQs
-
You'll need an unmodified copy of Pokémon Crystal - which I cannot provide - and then use an IPS Patcher. If you are upgrading, you will need to patch a fresh unmodified copy of Pokémon Crystal. Saves (outside of Elm's Lab) will still be compatible.
This website is commonly used for applying patches. Once you have patched your copy of Pokémon Crystal, you will be able to play the Giftlocke version.

Of course! Feel free to use this patch to stream or create content out of this challenge. The only thing I ask for is a credit with a link to my YouTube channel in the description of your video or stream.
