Nuzlocke Patch
Latest update: 21st December 2024, Beta v1.6
Patch Features:
Beta 1.6 Additions:
Bugfix: You now obtain the HONEY JAR in the Route 34/Ilex Forest gate.
Bugfix: Starters are no longer randomized by default.
Bugfix: Various text box fixes.
Change: Moved LEVEL CAP and CANDY JAR options to the Randomizer Settings PC at the beginning of the game.
Addition: FAIRY-type - when selecting a type to Nuzlocke, you can now select the FAIRY type. If selected, all current FAIRY Pokémon will have their types changed.
Addition: TYPELESS - if you select this type to Nuzlocke, ALL Pokémon’s types are removed.
Addition: LITTLELOCKE - this mode will restrict your catches to just the first stage of any evolutionary line. Evolution is disabled when this option is set.
Beta 1.5 Additions:
Nurse Joy no longer revives fainted Pokémon.
Gift Pokémon now function correctly.
Correct vendor gives Rental Abra in Goldenrod Game Corner.
Removed black flash from shiny animation.
Beta 1.4 Additions:
If you play with Types Restricted, the Rival will always take the Pokémon with the Pokémon strongest against yours. In the case of types like Rock and Ground, the Rival will randomly be assigned one of the two types strong against yours. This does not change the Rival's starter on regular Nuzlocke mode.
Rental Abra now available from Goldenrod Game Corner to assist with Teleport.
Escape Rope is now a Key Item located at the top of Sprout Tower.
Level Cap now increases properly after defeating Blue.
Some maps' banks changed in order to increase stability.
This patch is compatible with previous versions, but please save outside to prevent softlocks in case the map you're on has moved bank.
Base Nuzlocke Features
In-built Nuzlocke Tracker which automatically prevents captures on routes after the first valid encounter.
Hard-coded Dupes and Shiny Clauses.
Optional level-cap for playing on Hardcore Mode.
Optional infinite Rare Candy to speed up grinding.
Option to change the Starter Pokémon in all three Poké Balls.
Randomize Starters by talking to the mouse on Elm’s Desk.
Trade Evolutions work via Linking Cord found in Mahogany Mart after Team Rocket has been defeated in the Radio Tower.
NPC in 2F Pokémon Center to change time and day.
NPC in 2F Pokémon Center to check Hidden Power’s type.
All HMs have an equivalent Key Item to prevent softlocks. Most items are found in the same places as their equivalent HM. Waterfall’s item is in Tohjo Falls.
Revives and Sacred Ash are disabled.
Typelocke Features:
Randomized Starters will all be of the correct Pokémon typing. The Gen 2 starters are guaranteed in Water/Fire/Grass only runs.
Nuzlocke Tracker will block catches of invalid Pokémon, and will only mark a route as exhausted after a valid encounter.
Pokémon who evolve into another type are classed as valid encounters - for example, Onix is in the Steel type’s pool.
Beta Version Warning:
This patch is still VERY early in development. It is likely to contain undiscovered bugs and crashes. Please save regularly to avoid losing progress.

FAQs
-
You'll need an unmodified copy of Pokémon Crystal - which I cannot provide - and then use an IPS Patcher. If you are upgrading, you will need to patch a fresh unmodified copy of Pokémon Crystal. Saves (outside of Elm's Lab) will still be compatible.
This website is commonly used for applying patches. Once you have patched your copy of Pokémon Crystal, you will be able to play the Challenge Run version.

Of course! Feel free to use this patch to stream or create content out of Challenge Runs. The only thing I ask for is a credit with a link to my YouTube channel in the description of your video or stream.
